Punch-back Beatle no punch-back! When someone shouts that at you and then your upper arm goes numb, it’s the beginning of a war in which spotting a VW beatle then giving your friend a punch in the arm is the name of the game. Yes, I wasn’t aware of this game either until I regained feeling in the my shoulder two days later. Bloody North Americans, sorry I meant Canadians.
Well, sometimes they’re good for something, like introducing you to bands like San Francisco-based Sic Alps, comprised of Mike Donovan, Matt Hartmann and Noel von Harmonson.
Last time they were here they stunned the crowd, this time they will stun the crowd…it’s easy when you’ve got an LP as good as latest slice Napa Asylum to flog aswell as recent EP Breadhead. Their brand of garage rock can be difficult to take at first but rewards repeat listens, slowly revealing it’s charms in brief hooks, wobbliness, distortion and the general we-recorded-this-using-a-taperecorder-speaker quality only achieved by true home-recording experts. Think Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees and you’re on the right track.
